LODGE NEWS

At the last district meeting hosted by Germania all ten lodges were represented with approximately 40 to 50 members in attendance, R.W. Grand Senior Warden Chip Borne was the guest speaker and he said it is extremely important that all lodges get their officers or proxies to go to the special Grand lodge session, October 30, to vote AGAINST the sale of the Masonic properties in Alexandria because it just wasn't good business judgment at this time. There were other factors discussed about this attempted sale.

W.M. Thibodaux asked all lodges to give a report about the 16th district lodges. From 8 of the ten the news was fantastic with Albert Pike having 18 new MM's this year alone. Galileo-Mazzini 7, Germania 5 and five other lodges reporting they have been very busy also. The two exceptions were Cervantes #5 and Paul M. Schneidau #391. Cervantes reported that at the last meeting they voted to switch from Spanish to English and many present expressed an interest in plural membership to save this historic old lodge. They are down to 28 members. Paul M Schneidau reported that they switched form Saturdays to the 2nd Wednesday because Saturday's weren’t practical. They too said they needed new blood.

Refreshments were prepared by W. Bro. Ray Steele, (guys were seen licking their fingers the food was so good!) W.M. Thibodaux (bread and salad) and I (desert). Secretary Reed Holmes brought drinks and was there early to set up and late to clean up. This meeting showed that the district lodges do have a purpose if utilized correctly, there was great fellowship and good education with peace and harmony prevailing. It was one of the best district meetings I have been to.

GERMANFEST 2004 – NOVEMBER 13, 6:30 p.m.

This is the last opportunity to help with Germanfest 2004. In addition to the fest and to celebrate 160 years of Masonry in New Orleans we are putting together a program that will include some past programs, a 10 year history, pictures and a few articles. This will be handed to new members, prospects and guests. We need sponsors of $50 or more to defray production costs. Any business, brother or person that would like their name listed as a sponsor in the booklet should call and make arrangements. We are making every attempt to have it completed and printed by November 13, the Germanfest so your requests must be in by November 6. Any extra money will be used for the success of the fest. Also, at the fest,we will raffle off a few items, already the Deutsches Haus has donated some shirts and steins but we need a few more items for a successful raffle. If you have something of value, suitable for a raffle, please call. We also need volunteers to help set up the day of the fest and to help clean up the day after, the Rainbow girls have graciously volunteered to assist during. Finally, and probably the most important, we need people to sell tickets it’s the best value in town at $20 including food, entertainment and beverages. Remember, it’s a fund raiser for the building fund, be generous!

What is the Louisiana Lodge of Research? sent in by W.M. Ion Lazar

The Louisiana Lodge of Research is a statewide Masonic Lodge whose membership is open to all Master Masons who are in good standing in a Louisiana Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons or a member in good standing in a Lodge recognized by the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana F. & A. M.

The Louisiana Lodge of Research (LLR) was formed for the purpose of providing Masonic Research and to promote a better understanding of all facets of Freemasonry.

It meets at least twice a year. The scheduled dates are on the Sunday prior to the opening of the Grand Lodge and on the third or fourth Saturday in August. The first meeting is where Grand Lodge meets. The August meeting is held at a place mutually acceptable to the members and may be anywhere in the state.

All Master Masons are welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings of the LLR. Ladies and other guests may attend the open portion of the meetings at which papers on various Masonic topics are presented.

Our LLR is relatively new but we expect to publish papers presented at our meetings and grow into an active lodge, contributing to the advancement of Freemasonry in our state. We welcome your interest and support.

The first major project of our research lodge was the publishing of the book "LET THERE BE LIGHT" by Dr. H. Glenn Jordan. The initial printing was three thousand copies and over two thousand of those have been sold.

In Other News:

Germania Lodge #46 hosted the Order of Eastern Stars of Louisiana, Worthy Grand Matron of Louisiana and her entourage at the October 27th meeting. S.W. Reed Holmes is very active in the Eastern Stars and organized the event. After a delicious meal was served by Germania the members of the order were ushered upstairs into the lodge room where W.M. Lazar welcomed them and officially received them. Talks were then given by the Worthy Grand Matron, sister Audrey Barker, and the Worthy Grand Patron, brother J. R. (Buck) Denny, of the Grand Chapter. The OES entourage traveled from all over the state for the meeting and represented many different chapters.

Bro. Rob Tewis was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason at the October 13 meeting. Bro. Tewis is a New Orleans policeman and puts his life on the line every time he dons a uniform. He is enthusiastic to get active with the lodge and was recently seen with his girlfriend Shelly at the Deutsches Haus Oktoberfest. We now know that they will both keep the old German tradition of toasting and merriment! Bro. Tewis also asked for an application to join the Deutsches Haus. Congratulations Bro. Tewis, we look forward to your company, friendship and brotherly love.
