We are so blessed to have such wonderful musicians enhancing our lodge. At the June 22 nd meeting we raised international star Vince Vance, another musician, many of you, especially my age, should recognize. For the music part, in the Master Mason degree, Brothers Jerry Embree and Eric Bethancourt were on their Saxophone and keyboard. It was one of the most beautiful and memorable processions I can ever remember. Brother Vance was very moved by the entire experience. He has shown enthusiasm, interest and zest at becoming a Mason and has vowed to be at as many meetings and functions as his very demanding schedule will allow. All who worked with him in his learning process feel like they have known him for years because of his affability. We welcome Bro. Vance to Germania . I feel he was a Mason in his heart long before he petitioned the lodge. Bro. Vance has a large van that he uses for touring and has offered to drive to Indivisible Friends for the joint meeting on July 13 so we will meet at Germania at 6p.m. to have “happy hour” and then head to Gretna for the joint meeting at 6:30p.m. so - be at our lodge before 6:30p.m if you want a ride. If you need directions give me a call.
At our July 27 th joint meeting we will be having a Master Mason degree for a very special FC. He is a Marine who has already spent time in Afghanistan and is finishing his education at Tulane and then plans on making the Military his career. HE IS THE BEST THIS COUNTRY HAS TO OFFER! Please come to his Master Mason degree.
Because of July 4 falling on the first Monday, Dante Lodge’s regular meeting night, they decided not to have a meeting but will have a “Bring a Friend “ social the following Monday, July 11. W.M. Holmes accepted an invitation to join them. We are co-hosting the event so bring yourself, your wife and anyone you think would be interested in Masonry. Bro. Melvin Mim’s, from Dante, is cooking red beans for the meeting and which he promises to be unforgettable. We will also “unveil” the new sigh for the front of our building which was painted by Anne Farmer, a neighbor on Bienville St. a few blocks down toward the cemeteries.
The district meeting hosted by Galilieo Mazzini on June 30 had a very nice turn out. Albert Pike won the traveling gavel with 16 members present and Germania was 2 nd with 11. Members of the York Rite bodies put on a Masonic play called “The Masters Word”. It was well executed and there were some excellent actors. Some of the brothers in the cast traveled from Baton Rouge to come put on the play. District meetings have recently been used for their intended purpose - Education and Fellowship. Please be at the next one on Thursday, September 29 hosted by Perseverance.

When I was:
Four years old: My daddy can do anything.
Five years old: My daddy knows a whole lot.
Six years old: My dad is smarter than your dad.
Eight years old: My dad doesn't know exactly everything.
Ten years old: In the olden days, when my dad grew up, things were sure different.
Twelve years old: Oh, well, naturally. Dad doesn't know anything about that. He is too old to remember his childhood.
Fourteen years old: Don't pay any attention to my dad. He is so old-fashioned.
Twenty-one years old: Him? My Lord, he's hopelessly out of date.
Twenty-five years old: Dad knows about it, but then he should, because he has been around so long.
Thirty years old: Maybe we should ask Dad what he thinks. After all, he's had a lot of experience.
Thirty-five years old: I'm not doing a single thing until I talk to Dad.
Forty years old: I wonder how Dad would have handled it. He was so wise.
Fifty years old: I'd give anything if Dad were here now so I could talk this over with him. Too bad I didn't appreciate how smart he was. I could have learned a lot from him.

A BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE FROM BRO. VINCE VANCE
An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.
After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house." The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them." "For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house."
Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. I guess you've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.
Brothers, thank you dearly for finding enough good in me, your crackpot friend, to raise me to the sublime light of Master Mason. I am honored.
Have a blessed day and remember to stop and smell the flowers!
Your Brother, Vince Vance

DeMolayThis subject gets its own section because it is so important ! Concorde Chapter of DeMolay, the youth group for boys 12 to 21, is the 2 nd oldest in the state and has been dormant for quite some time in spite of the efforts of a few good brothers. Rainbow girls has been doing much better thanks in part to the efforts of people like Julia Radosti who labor tirelessly, with determination, for it’s survival. Some DeMolay chapters haven’t been lucky to have such a laborer as Julia. Well, Sunday July 24 from 2pm to 5 pm there will be "The Concorde DeMolay Revitalization Program" at Germania Hall. Anyone interested in being an advisor to DeMolay is encouraged, pleaded with and beseeched to be at this most important meeting. Without advisors the program will never get off the ground and the Concorde Chapter DeMolay likely will cease to exist as will other chapters. Brother Dan Mehn has been involved in DeMolay for over 47 years, he and other state wide leaders will be there to tell what is needed and expected of the brothers. It will require some sacrifices but the rewards are priceless. Meetings will be once or twice a month at Germania on Sunday afternoons. Everyone wants to help kids, keep them off the streets and give good and wholesome instruction so... This is your chance - please don't turn your back on DeMolay - Volunteer, be at Germania July 24! The NEXT step will be getting new members into Concorde, but we have learned over the years that good Masonic advisors are the key to having a successful chapter. That is why we are focusing on getting some more advisors FIRST, and more members SECOND. The three adults who have been working with Concorde have over 100 years of involvement already committed. That is why we need more, new advisors. A few committed people can never do the job that a larger group can do. So... Let's find the right advisors to get this chapter going again, so it can take its rightful place as it has done for so many years in DeMolay. The advisors don't have to be Germania members - they don't even HAVE to be masons anymore(!!!!), but Masonic knowledge makes the transition to DeMolay advisor easier for one and all!! Applications are available at the lodge, and can be brought to the training session on July 24!! ~Dan Mehn |

In the mid 1990's there was a disturbing anti-Masonic movement in the U.S. that was fueled in part by the efforts of a Texas doctor by the name of James L. Holly. Dr. Holly sought to have Masons expelled from the Southern Baptists on the grounds that he felt Freemasonry was incompatible with Christianity. During the 1990's there was considerable anti-Masonic activity in various parts of the U.S. In the Texas hometown of Dr. Holly, anti-Masons harassed Masons at their homes, places of work and schools of their children. There was also scattered anti-Masonic events throughout the U.S. The librarian of the GL Library in Washington State told me of anti-Masons coming into their library and overturning book cases and other acts of vandalism. |
