OUR AMERICAN HEROS

When you read this newsletter we will have two brothers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our own Senior Warden, Bro. John Day III, was recently and unexpectedly called up for duty in Afghanistan and had to resign his position. He was given a round of applause at the February 24th meeting and praised for his dedicated service to our country. We wish him a safe and speedy return and hope he will soon be able to resume his Masonic travels to the East.
Bro. Will Woldenburg is also being called to active duty, he is training in Mississippi at Camp Shelby and will soon leave for Iraq. Bro. Will told me that he will return in January 2011 and will make New Orleans his permanent home! This it truly great news.
We pray that the Grand Architect of the Universe will be with them and keep out of harms way.
P.S. Bro. Aaron Ronskley is still serving in Hawaii, hey somebody has to do it. ?I heard he got chafed by a surf board. ? WE APPRECIATE OUR BROTHERS IN THE MILITARY!

Brother Dave Krasner and I were at the Deutsches Haus a few weeks ago for the Haus Oktoberfest volunteer party. There was a young man there you couldn’t miss. We couldn’t decide if he was a magician, ring leader or chimney sweep. Curiosity got the best of us and we introduced our selves. Turns out he is a journeyman stone mason from Germany on a three year required journey traveling around the world learning how other stone masons operate. His clothing is required of a journeyman stone mason. His jewelry was most similar to ours. He said he had a power point program and a prepared talk about his trade so we invited him to come speak at our February 10 meeting. We are extremely glad we did! This is an edited excerpt from that meetings minute.
After the meeting we all enjoyed a talk and slide show presentation by a young Stone Mason Journeyman, Sebastain Herdicka, from Germany who is traveling around the world for three years learning how people in other parts of the world do their stone masonry trade. It is a requirement of his 800 year old guild. He spoke of the origins of the guild, the requirements and clothing and about what distinguishes stone masons from different guild members. He talked about the heritage and even had pictures going back to the turn of the century. After his talk he presented the lodge a cloth with different guild emblems. When we found out that the three years traveling was mandatory and that no one was compensated by the guild, the compassion of our beloved fraternity came to light. It was a most delightful experience having this young stone mason in our presence and give his talk and slide show. kkueck

2010 DUES

Three brothers haven’t paid their dues for 2009 and unfortunately will have to be dropped for NPD at the end of this year if we can’t make arrangements. As for 2010, there 24 (out of 214) not paid. Payment was due by December 31, 2009 so please catch up or give me a call if you need assistance. You need a current dues card to visit other lodges! Thanks

Some Sad News

John Jacob "Jack" Zollinger III, A brother I have known most of my life, originally from Trinity Evangelical UCC on Canal St. where he taught Sunday School, has passed away. He had Rose Croix services at Jacob Schoen on Monday, March 1. Bro. Jack took a plural membership with Germania on April 27, 2005 and later found out that he had a great uncle of Swiss decent that was a member of our lodge back in the 1800's. Bro. Jack was very generous and cared deeply about all of the many Masonic organizations he belonged to. Since he has been a member of Germania he donated Saints tickets for the Germanfest door prize. He was a mentor to many and will be impossible to replace. The lodge will be in mourning for the March meetings.
He was a 33rd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite. At the time of his death, he was on the Boards of the Scottish Rite Foundation, Bethany and Covenant Nursing Homes, and the President of First Trinity Evangelical Church UCC. Over his lifetime, he was affiliated with Louisiana Lodge #102 F&AM, Lee E. Thomas Lodge #421 F&AM, Germania Lodge #46 F&AM, Union Lodge #172, F&AM, New Orleans Scottish Rite, The Royal Order of Scotland, The Royal Society of St. George, Louisiana Council #2, Indivisible Friends Commandery #1, St. Paul Conclave Red Cross of Constantine, Jerusalem Temple A.A.O. N.M.S., Court #36 Royal Order of Jesters, Kachina Billiken Klub, National Sojourners, Metairie Country Club, World Trade Center of New Orleans, and Sigma Alpha Kappa Fraternity.
He was initiated in Louisiana Lodge #102 on March 3, 1966, passed June 16, 1966 and raised on July 7, 1966 and was a Master Mason for 43 years, 7 months and 18 days - Well done thou good and faithful servant. kkueck
